Our 2024 Sustainability Report sets out our results, challenges and achievements, reflecting our role in advancing basic sanitation together with social and environmental responsibility and transparency. The publication brings together data, stories and actions that reflect our dedication to people’s quality of life and sustainable development in the regions where we operate.

Who We Are

Backed by 27 years of experience, the Águas do Brasil Group operates in 32 municipalities across three Brazilian states (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Minas Gerais), providing treated water and sewage services to around 5 million people. We have 14 concessionaires and two industrial units, all committed to operational excellence, innovation and supporting life in all its forms.

Highlights of 2024

We continued to strengthen our presence in the sanitation sector, making consistent advances, integrated into our strategic areas of operation. Building on our past work over the last 27 years, we maintained our focus on achieving universal service coverage, operational efficiency and business sustainability. Featuring robust investments, innovative solutions and initiatives aimed at social and environmental development, 2024 was a year of significant deliveries and consolidation of results.

Ethics, Transparency and Corporate Governance

We reinforced integrity, transparency and risk management across all our units:

Solid governance:

We maintained ISO 37000 (Governance), 37002 (Whistleblowing), 37001 (Anti-Bribery) and 37301 (Compliance) certifications.

Diverse board:

43% of the members of our Board of Directors are women.

Training and integrity:

96% of our employees did training in ethics, anti-corruption and information security.

Robust compliance:

We fostered a culture of integrity in all areas through targets for senior leaders.

Data protection:

We made progress in implementing the Brazilian General Data Protection Law, anonymizing data and using AI for cyber risk monitoring.

Ética, Transparência e Governança Corporativa

Financial Capital

Sustainable growth:

Our consolidated gross revenue reached R$2.4 billion, up 10.9% from 2023. EBITDA was R$699 million, up 7.5% from the previous year, reflecting financial strength and efficiency gains.

Efficient commercial management:

We introduced new digital payment methods, such as Brazil’s PIX system and credit card installment plans, increasing convenience for customers and revenue collection efficiency.

Fundraising success:

Rio+Saneamento’s third bond issue raised R$500 million in August. As a result, the concessionaire now has R$4.65 billion in long-term financing in place, ensuring the necessary resources to execute its plans.

Market recognition:

Fitch Ratings assigned a “AAA(bra)” national long-term rating to SAAB and concessionaires Águas de Juturnaíba and Águas do Paraíba. The same rating was also assigned to Rio+Saneamento’s second and third bond issues.

Operating Capital

Expansion of coverage:

We ended the year with around 1.5 million active water connections and more than 1 million active sewage connections, including 35,583 water connections incorporated through the acquisition of Águas da Imperatriz.

Efficient distribution:

We reduced our water loss rate to 24.7%, thanks to the use of advanced monitoring and operational control technologies.

Automation and digitalization:

We modernized our concessionaires’ supervisory systems, enabling integration with the corporate environment and real-time remote monitoring.

Human and Social Capital

We cared for people through programs encompassing health, inclusion, equity and the creation of opportunities.

Workforce diversity:

We made progress regarding leadership diversity. In all, 39.8% of our leaders are now women and 23.3% are black and mixed-race people.

Desenvolvimento profissional:

Promovemos mais de 68 mil horas de treinamento no ano.

“Social Tariff” subsidy scheme:

More than 219,000 households benefited from discounts, facilitating their access to sanitation services.

Community and environmental education:

Projects such as Integrated Community and Environmental Outlook enhanced our relationships with people in socially vulnerable neighborhoods while promoting citizenship, formalization of connections and environmental education.

Environmental Capital

We advanced in terms of sustainable solutions to protect natural resources, reduce impacts and promote the circular economy.

Waste management:

We increased the volume of sludge from water and sewage treatment plants sent for sustainable disposal and developed our Strategic Sludge Management Plan, which will guide the more efficient and sustainable management of this type of waste.

Energy sustainability:

We continued with our distributed generation project, producing 23,898.97 MWh, which avoided emissions of 1,302.49 metric tons of CO₂.

Water security:

We completed our preliminary water security assessment, mapping risks related to scarcity, variations in water quality and the impacts of floods on our operational units.

Environmental certifications:

We maintained ISO 14001 certification for several units and GHG Protocol Gold certification for our GHG emissions inventory.
